Why are the Duke Blue Devils so hated?
Theory Number 1: On the aforementioned Bill Simmons podcast, Klosterman wondered why people hated Duke so much. His most interesting theory was something along the lines of “reverse racism.” Duke recruits a lot of white players and most of them turn out to be really good. Klosterman thinks that because Duke has been so successful with so many quality white players, many people must hate them because of that. Theory Number 2: Klosterman compared Duke to Stanford, another school that is commonly referred to as a “rich school” and an “Ivy League school” that’s pretty hard to get in to, costs a fortune to attend, and where the students usually come from well-to-do families. It’s a socio-economic theory, or as I like to call it, “the New York Yankees corollary”. Duke is a “rich school” with a lot of money (you know, like the Yankees).
