Why are the druids unable to protect themselves from the roman soldiers?

Druids weren’t exactly known for their impressive warfare ability. I mean, I could be wrong. If I am, please educate me. But I thought they were famous for worshiping nature. If ‘worshiping nature’ meant they could summon packs of wolves and ravens and ents to do their bidding, maybe control the weather or plague infested rats or kill their enemies with lightning, then yeah, they should’ve smoked the Romans. But if it just means bowing to a tree and leaving a little handmade mistletoe doily, well, you can see why they got their butts kicked. No offense to the druids but just b/c you’re a pagan doesn’t mean you can stop a bunch of sword carrying soldiers.
