Why are the descriptions of the creature so different between witnesses?
Our theory about the differing descriptions is that there may be more than one creature that people are seeing (see our answer for what we believe the Jersey Devil to be). This would explain why some seem taller or are a different color. Also, in some cases the events surrounding the sightings are different – some see it from a distance, some up close, others are seeing it during the day, some at night, etc. All of those factors can influence what people think they see.
