Why are the Cherokee important to the history of Georgia?
The Cherokee lived on the land known as Georgia for approximately 20,000 years before Christopher Columbus was born or plantations were built by settlers from Europe. Georgia and the Cherokee also had many conflicts and these conflicts lead to the Trail of Tears. Many people who live in Georgia today can claim at least some Cherokee blood.
