Why are the carts bright blue? Wouldn green or brown have been a better choice?
The choice of blue is in keeping with the color widely associated with recycling of cans, bottles, jars, and paper. The color is as much a signal for hauling crews of what’s inside as it is to container users. The darker colors — brown, green, and black — are typically used for trash cans. When used as a signal for collection purposes, green generally indicates yard trim. Similarly, brown can be associated with organics collection. We do not offer paper recycling carts in alternate colors. You may buy your own paper recycling container. We have decals available to identify the contents of privately purchased containers. The caveat is a caution about weight: if you use your own container for paper, please observe the 45 pound per container limit so that hauling crews may empty the container by hand.
