Why are Tempo Fitness machines so smooth?

Two major reasons: First, both our bikes and elliptical trainers use what is called an “ECB magnetic brake” to provide resistance. The benefit of magnetic resistance is that there are no belts, pads or straps creating friction (resistance) with the flywheel. The fact that nothing is touching or rubbing against the flywheel helps to promote a very smooth, pedal stroke and consistent momentum of the flywheel with no “hot spots” i.e. points of the pedal stroke that feel like they “stick”. Second, all of the Tempo Fitness flywheels are “dynamically balanced” at the factory. The benefit of this is that the flywheel will spin “true” meaning that there is no point on the circumference of the flywheel that is heavier than any other point. It is the same principle that is used for bicycle and car wheels. By truing or balancing the wheels, you eliminate the “hop” of that wheel, which in turn leads to a smoother ride. This tighter flywheel spin translates to a velvet smooth pedal stroke.
