Why are synthetic fragrances and colorants undesirable in skin care products?
Artificial colorants and synthetic fragrance can irritate the skin. This type of irritation is referred to as “irritant contact dermatitis,” a simple irritation that develops in response to a substance applied to the skin. Irritant contact dermatitis can cause redness, itching, rash or worse. It’s best to avoid products that list “fragrance” on the ingredient listing or contain colorants, especially if you have sensitive skin. If you are not sure about the ingredients in a product, ask before you buy.
