Why are support groups helpful?
Bill, a missionary in the program who lost his son to drugs and alcohol said If you take a two-by-four and try to stand it on its end, it will fall. If you take ten or twenty two-by-fours and bundle them together and stand them on end, even if you put a hundred pounds of pressure on the top, the bundle will remain standing. If we band together through our brother Jesus Christ and help one another we can handle the pressure of just about anything. When we try to do it alone, we fall. In the Deseret Morning News of Thursday, March 28, 2004, we read, Experts in addiction treatment agree that kicking the habit rests in large part with the acceptance on the part of addicts that they cannot do it alone.
