Why are students told NOT to print out of Adobe Illustrator?

0

Even though you may have had no problems printing out of Illustrator to the black & white laserprinters or even had some success out of the color printers, there is a configuration out of Illustrator that often causes the following problems when printing to the color printers: Because Illustrator defaults to an 800 dpi output and the color printers only output at a 300 dpi output, if a student prints directly out of Illustrator, the file my actually “jam” in the printer because it’s too much data for it to process effectively. Subsequently, any other students trying to print will not have success because they’re print jobs are waiting in the queue on the server’s print spooler which holds print jobs until the printer is free for the next print job. The printer will act as if it’s receiving and processing data as normally, but it will never process the print job. Students will need to import Illustrator EPS files into either Quark or PageMaker and from there process any printing.
