Why are some yahoo Olympic sites listing total medals won as winners INSTEAD of gold medals won?
Even though that is not the IOC standard to show the winning countries based on the number of medals total, it has become a standard for countries all over the world. And it is unfair to say it is so the United States can show that they are in the lead. Here in Canada it shows the United States in the lead, and China in second. When China had the most overall medals, they showed China first and the United States second. I think it’s more about just Gold Medals. It is about each and every medal the athletes win, because that is an accomplishment and that makes them a winner. It shows respect for each athlete who won any color medal.
