Why are some towns proposing deer culls to reduce Lyme disease if it doesn work?
Lyme disease is a serious public health issue in Connecticut, and state and local authorities are under substantial pressure to “do something” about it. Because deer host Lyme-bearing ticks, eliminating deer strikes many as an intuitive solution to the Lyme disease problem. The evidence from the many towns that have already gone down the deer cull road, however, fails to support the claim that killing deer does anything to reduce Lyme disease.
