Why are some screen updates missed, but can be “painted in” with a mouse?

Symptom: In some situations, some screen updates do not appear on the DisplayLink screen but do appear when the mouse is moved over the place where they should be. This can occur • On the DisplayLink Graphics Adapter screen if it is cloning the primary screen and there is a second DisplayLink Graphics Adapter screen that is extending • On the DisplayLink Graphics Adapter screen if it is the primary screen and there is a directly attached screen that is extending • If the Hardware acceleration is reduced (from Windows Display Properties, select DisplayLink monitor, ‘Advanced’, ‘Troubleshoot’ tab). Problem: This is caused by Windows altering the frame buffer directly, bypassing standard GDI calls. This means that the DisplayLink driver does not get informed of the changes. Solution: The workaround is to make sure that the Hardware acceleration is at its maximum value, and to use the mouse to ‘paint in’ areas that were not updated.
