MRI scans of common parts of the body, looking for the most common problems are covered by Medicare and given a Medicare rebate. Medicare does not yet cover some very specialised scans (such as breast MRI), and therefore you would be responsible for the full amount of those tests, as there is no rebate from Medicare.
