Why are some rabbits fat when all they eat is lettuce???
Hey, just because you can’t get much in the way of nutrition out of lettuce (which is OK, because what you want it for is fiber, not nutrition), doesn’t mean a rabbit can’t. Their digestion is very different, and they can process that lettuce as efficiently as a cow processes grass, and for much the same reason: their digestion holds onto the food much longer, through a series of chambers, and extracts much more from it than we do. We need fiber to scour out our insides and keep them moving nicely. They hang onto it until it’s a hard little pellet. They got a whole lot more out of it than we did, but we don’t work that way.
