Why are some PC/104 CPU boards bigger than PC/104 modules?
Many CPU boards are larger than the standard PC/104 form factor in order to provide additional functions that would not fit on a smaller board. Doing so reduces the number of modules needed for a system and makes production and maintenance easier. Large boards like this often act as a carrier board for additional modules and sometimes act as complete systems by themselves. These CPUs still retain a PC/104 stacking connector for future expansion or for the addition of functions not found on the main board. Seek additional information on the new standard called “EBX”.
