Selected topics that are taught on an ongoing basis will be given their own number with a suffix under a related course (for example, 131F is the topic Four Centuries of Racial Vision and Division, under 131 Race and Ethnic Relations in the U.S.). To be consistent, all selected topics courses follow the same numbering scheme. Selected topics courses taught on a one-time only basis will be given a number ending in “9”in the area that it fits in (e.g. Soc 189, Selected topics in Comparative Perspectives and Area Studies in Sociology, will be used by visiting instructors who want to teach a course on a particular area or society such as Korean Society). I don’t understand why a particular course was renumbered and moved to a particular substantive area (e.g. Soc 172 Development and Globalization was moved to Economy and Society and given the number 127).
