Why are some of the discipline areas under the Breadth of Knowledge Distribution requirements more narrow or specific than others?
There are six areas listed under the Breadth of Knowledge Distribution requirements. Humanities, Natural Sciences, and Social Sciences are rather broad areas, while Fine Arts, Historical Perspectives, and Literature, each of which could be included within one of the other areas, are more narrow. The distinction is intentional.
