Why are some meteoroids visible to the naked eye once they enter the earths atmosphere?
It is interesting. The colour can give away the composition of such objects. But your eye can differentiate the brighter light quite easily. As the meteorite enters the atmosphere there is friction between the material it is made up of and the atmosphere. This friction raised the temperature to a point where the meteorite starts to burn up. The outer layers burn off exposing the other layers and eventually there is nothing left. The burning off is seen as the streak across the sky. The colour gives away its composition. Some science classes in schools will deal with the properties of materials as they are burnt.
