Why are some code enforcement complaints resolved sooner than others?

CCHD follows Missouri State law and Cole County code which have specific time and notice procedures and requirements. Some properties are cleaned up by the offending property owner as soon as they receive a notice indicating that CCHD has received a complaint. In this instance, the issue was resolved prior to being inspected and sent a second notice, which would be for a violation. In some instances it may be difficult to find someone to send notice due to returned mail. In these cases, it is an additional 31 days from the last day that legal notice is published in the local newspaper that a hearing may be held. Though CCHD has streamlined this process as much as legally possible, getting an Abatement Order from the Cole County Commission can be a timely process if the property owner takes no action.
