Why are some Black Swallowtail chrysalis brown and some green?

Hello! There are many reasons for this. It seems to me that the reason you recieve, depends on who you ask. From my experience in raising them, I’ve found that the cats that pupate on brown sticks or twigs with no leaves are brown. Even a cat that pupated on a terra cotta colored plastic saucer was brown. The cats that pupated on green plants are green. Even if I place a brown stick in a container in which a plant is growing, will be green to match the foliage. My opionion is that they are brown or green to match their surrounds, so they are camoflauged from predators.
