Why are some asphalt surfaces smooth while others appear coarse?
Asphalt Batch Plants make two types of asphalt mix. The first type is referred to as the base aggregate mix. The second type is referred to as the topcoat mix. Some asphalt surfaces are only given a single application, unlike roadways which receive a double layer application. Sometimes it is just a question of inadequate compaction.
