Why are some areas of The 80s Server only available through subscription?
The ’80s Server is a not-for-profit organization that supports our site through subscriptions and advertisements. Currently, approximately 40 percent of our site is “under subscription” and contains no advertising. The other 60 percent is free and contains advertising. The ’80s Server was built in 1995 and was sold to Metropolis in order to cover the costs of a) the servers, b) the bandwidth and c) the staffing it takes to research, write, create graphics and handle customer service issues and questions. To help defray the costs that Metropolis incurs for the servers, bandwidth and staffing, we accept advertisements and encourage our loyal surfers to become ’80s Server VIP Subscribers. The subscriptions and advertisements in no way cover the costs, but they do help pay our monthly bills! In return, we offer subscribers several unique e-mail addresses, games to play and information to research. To learn more about the benefits of membership, go to this page. Why are we a not-for-profit
