Why are some Americans so ignorant?
You probably have to live here to understand. Our own culture is pretty huge and all-encompassing. If you transplanted most Americans to a different location, where the borders are closer, they’d have the same cosmopolitan attitude that you’re used to. Fortunately, we don’t have to put up with that kind of crap. It’s just America, as far as the eye can see, and a good ways beyond that, too. We can feel free to go ahead and have another cheeseburger while watching reruns of our favorite 80’s shows on “Nick At Night” and call that culture. Why don’t we know more about the world? Don’t need to. Our culture works fine the ways it is, blinkered, blinded and nearsighted, as it is, thank you very much. A few of us take tiny little bits of the rest of the world, as we please, but for most people, the only part of, say, Europe that they need to know about is the exchange rate between the Euro and the Dollar (almighty). If we don’t like it, we ignore it. If it refuses to go away, we blow it up.
