Why are Social Skills Important?
Social skills are important for children because they allow the child to be successful in school and the community. For example, learning to follow school rules and knowing the rules is a key to the academic and social success of students. If a student continues to talk out in class, not knowing that he/she should raise their hand to be called on, his/her behavior will continue in school and in the community. It is important for school staff to teach and model the necessary skills. Social skills allow students to develop positive peer relationships, positive adult relationships, and the development of self-esteem and self-concept.
