Because small businesses were holding off on employing people because they were scared of their business going broke if they needed to sack someone and that person then sued them under the unfair dismissal laws. What this means is that if they are exempt from these laws, they will feel better about employing people and their businesses (and the job market) will continue to grow and prosper. Small businesses are still not exempt from ‘unlawful termination’ legislation. There is a difference between the 2 laws and it’s the mis-understanding of the general public which causes all the trouble and leads people to believe the new IR laws are bad, which they are simply not. I have nothing to do with the Govt but i am a Payroll Manager and have only seen good things come out of the laws for my employees. I believe the Govt has done a good job, but they are being punished for it by an opposition who puts forward lies. We need to look at voting in a Govt based on OTHER things, not just the IR la
