Why are season air dates sometimes so “flexible”?

It has to do with the short seasons and critical hype each show recieves, most of the shows you listed are on HBO or SHO, which are pay services, in those cases I think its their way of making sure fans don’t get short term or ‘trial’ subscriptions for the time frame a specific series might air — Think about it, if True Blodd is on every year January to March and airs 12 episodes (no idea, just a hypothetical) some people might sign up for those three months, let the subscription lapse, and then re-sign the next January and repeat the process each year or the cheap ones get the 1 month no commitment, and then watch the whole season in a week w/ On-Demand if they keep the series floating, it becomes too much work to cancel and re-subscribe also most Network series run for 22 episodes, so in 5 years they hit the 100 mark milestone… a “premium series’ might have as few as 6 episodes a season, and might never generate 100 episodes… but they can stretch out 3 seasons and 20 episodes ov
