Why are seagulls a protected species?
Different countries have different laws concerning the protection or hunting of birds. To attempt to halt the decline of some species laws were enacted here in the USA that are “blanket” laws. The migratory song bird law doesn’t allow killing of, collection of their eggs or nests or caging migratory song birds. It covers crows and ravens too. Migratory birds *non- song birds) are covered under another act. Special permits are required for some. Geese and ducks can be hunted here during hunting season. Sea gulls are safe as they are migratory. Because most people can’t differentiate between sea gull species all are protected. I’ve heard of people shooting Sand hill cranes because they thought they were geese. They were arrested, fined and required to go to school and learn to tell the different birds in flight from one an other.
