Why are science notes taken in the split page format?

Again, research shows that material arranged with illustrations on the left page and writing on the right page is remembered better. Different methods of taking notes are effective for different students. In science students are introduced to the split page method with topic headings on the left side and material to be remembered on the right of the fold. In answering questions the headings can be read to find the location of answers and by folding the paper back the same notes can be used to study. Other subjects will have notes in other configurations so that students will have a knowledge of at least three arrangements to choose from when they must make their own notes in upper grades.
