Why are School Health Services important?
To provide emergency care for illness or injury while at school, to ensure that all students get appropriate referrals to health care providers, to monitor for and control the spread of communicable disease, to provide education and counseling in a variety of health and wellness topics, to serve as a medical resource in the development of policies and procedures in the school. What are the state requirements concerning School Health Services? The state requires local school boards to have written policies and procedures to provide immediate emergency care for students and school personnel. The local school boards are allowed but not required to appoint a school nurse. A school nurse must be an RN and be licensed in the state of NH. If no nurse is available, there must be at least one person with current certification in first aid and CPR.
