Why are SAT Subject Tests used by colleges?
Selective colleges often want more test information than the SAT alone provides. Subject Tests are content-specific tests that, unlike AP exams, are not tied to a particular curriculum. Each Subject Test is broad enough in scope to be accessible to students from a variety of academic backgrounds, but specific enough to be useful to colleges as a measure of a students expertise in that subject.
