Why are rituals and annual rites performed related to departed souls? Does it help anyway?
It helps the grieving, and some of it came from when people believed that the dead would come back. Hense the air tight coffins.A long time ago people used to believe without proper funeral with a ceremony and such their loved ones would not be at rest, and on occasion would come back to haunt them. There are plenty of death rituals, and beliefs that go into it.
