Why are right-wingers in favor of corporate welfare but not human welfare?
I oppose corporate welfare. But tax breaks are not welfare. Letting people keep more of their own money is not the same as taking money from one person and giving it to another. Often tax breaks actually increase government revenue by making industry more profitable so they pay a lower tax rate on a higher income and thus pay more in total taxes. They win, the country wins and the people win because more money means more jobs. But big subsidies to corporations just make them dependent on the government and increases their chances of making bad risks because they know they will be bailed out. The same is true for people, make them too dependent and they stop taking personal responsibility for themselves. But lets get this straight, tax breaks are not welfare. Welfare is redistribution of wealth. Tax breaks let you keep your own money. Not stealing from someone is not the same as giving them a gift.
