Why are retainers needed?
After orthodontic treatment, when your braces are removed, your teeth can shift out of position if they are not stabilized in their positions. Retainers allow the jaw bone and gums to adapt to the treatment changes. If you don’t wear your retainers the irregularity of your teeth will return to some degree, and this may require braces to be placed on the teeth again (retreatment). Wearing your retainers as instructed is the best way of keeping your teeth straight for your lifetime.
