Why are resumes sent out in plain (ASCII) text?

0

We only distribute resumes in plain text because most recruiters and some email programs do not accept attachments, or simply ignore other formats. We restrict other formats so resumes get the maximum distribution exposure, most trusted security, occupy the least e-mail storage space by recruiters and use a minimum of internet bandwidth. Once a recruiter identifies a prospective candidate for a particular position, the recruiter can approach the candidate and suggest an expanded resume. That expanded resume emphasizing additional qualities of interest can then be in another format, or attachment and e-mailed directly to the recruiter.
