Why are red cards, penalties given during football what do they represent?
A red card is a sending off for the player. A penalty is usually awarded if a player is fouled or pushed by an opponent ‘in the box’, thus, been robbed of a goal scoring opportunity. A yellow card is shown to the player if he is booked for an offence. In some competitions, if two yellows cards are shown to the same player then the player is automatically shown a red card and is sent off.
