Why are rare diseases important for research?
Whether a disease is rare or common has nothing to do with how much information it will yield about the genes that make us what we are. Scientists look for facts under the brightest street lamp, and that illumination may come from a rare disease. In fact, some of the most common diseases may be the most difficult to study or understand.
