Why are professional standards important to an association?
If the association is going to attract members and have any influence, it needs to have credibility. To have credibility, it has to have (and enforce) minimum standards. If an association let any Joe Nutjob off the streets into their ranks, the group as a whole wouldn’t have, and more importantly, wouldn’t be perceived to have, basic levels of competence.
