Why are Private Foundations included in the database? I thought the database listed giving from individual donors?
Private Foundations are included in the database because they do represent gifts from individual donors. Private Foundations, often referred to as family foundations, are classified as charities where 50 per cent or more of the initial money comes from an individual or family. Therefore, PGD Canadas research team believed that gifts made by private foundations warranted being included in the database. The Private Foundation designation is based on the Canada Revenue Agency (CRAs) Charities Directorate classification listing.
