Why are prescription drugs and OTC medication so affordable in Canada?
Due to a national health care system, the Canadian government regulates the pricing of prescription drugs and medications. This limits and restricts drug companies on how much they can charge. For this reason, most Canadian prescription drugs are priced much lower than those marketed in the US. The quality of the drugs is every bit as good as in the US. The Canadian government also encourages generic companies to produce substantially cheaper generic versions of brand name drugs, and so generic variations of brand name drugs become available much sooner in Canada then they do in the USA.
