Why are police managing the pre-court diversion program?
A police presence exists in all Territory Centres and in many remote and Aboriginal communities. Police deal with offenders in the pre-court stage and police already make a decision whether to prosecute. Territory police understand their communities and they have the computer and communication systems. The Northern Territory Police Force has the respect of the community.
