Why are players released from minor league baseball?
The focus of the minor league system is to develop players for the Majors. There are some players who play a good portion of their career at the minor leagues, but usually, they are players who are borderline MLB material and teams want to keep the player around just in case an injury creates a need for that player on the MLB roster. If players begin to show that they will not move up and there is no chance that they will ever be good enough to play at the MLB level, teams don’t have a use for them, so the players are released.
