Why are plastic bags not acceptable?
When dealing with compostable material, plastic is considered a contaminant, as it does not compost. It is a costly and inefficient process to separate and remove the plastic from the compostable material. Often, plastic will remain in the finished material after it has been processed, which results in a lower-grade compost. This will dictate the quality and use of the finished material. Compostable bags, however, do not need to be removed because they will break down naturally as the organics start to decompose.
