Why are plants that produce carbohydrates more commonly grown than plants that produce protein?
All green plants make glucose during photosynthesis. They all make protein for their own uses. We get more protein from seeds and grains and nuts, the fruiting bodies of plants than the leaves and stems and roots. Carbohydrates are stored in various parts of plants and we pick them for food. Fruits and vegetables contain the carbs, both sugars and starches. We eat roots, stems, leaves, seeds, flowers and the fruits containing the new plant embryos. Legumes producing beans contain more protein.
