Why are people so against stem cell research?
Most people dont have a clue that there are adult forms of stem cells, or that bone marrow transplants are stem cell treatments. I did a dual cord blood stem cell transplant (bone marrow transplant using blood stem cells taken from cord blood) last year for leukemia… I STILL run into people when I talk about who are convinced that I killed a baby. Even when I try to explain and show them the website for the marrow donor’s program and all that.. They still Bible thump me saying that I killed a baby and I dont deserve to live. Hematopoetic (blood) stem cells can be taken from bone marrow, cord blood, and peripheral blood. The transplant can be used to treat leukemias, lymphomas, myleomas, and several non cancerous blood diseases. It can be used to treat auto immune diseases and in conjunction with other organ transplants to give patients a chance to come off their anti rejection meds. And it may be a future possible cure to aids.
