Why are people so afraid of snakes?
I completely sympathize, and I am sorry to hear that you’ve had to deal with people acting like that around your snake; too. 🙁 When people find out that I am a snake owner; I get a range of reactions. Anything from people suddenly stopping being friends with me, to rude comments that my snake ‘would make a lovely belt’, to stories about the last snake they saw in their yard had its head chopped off with a shovel, to having people reading bible verses at me as if I were possessed. I honestly don’t know which of those reactions I find the most offensive. It seems like common courtesies extended to mammals and mammal owners are completely thrown out the window when someone finds out that you have reptiles. I mean; I don’t know very many people who would stroll up to someone walking their dog and say “That is a lovely German shepherd mix, he would make a beautiful throw blanket”. Or “Oh, you have a horse? The last one of those that accidentally found its way into my yard had its head hack
