Why are people protesting the 2010 Vancouver Olympics?
There is a lot of poverty in Vancouver – it has one of the biggest homeless population in Vancouver. Some Vancouverites were evicted from their rental housing so that greedy homeowners could get big rents by renting to foreign tourists. There are a lot of Vancouverites who did not want the Olympics. For the past couple of years almost every street has been blocked off and in construction. Lots of frustration for a lot of people. A lot of small business owners lost their businesses when the streets they were located on were blocked off for Olympic construction. Almost everyone I know was not able to get tickets for any events to the Olympics. They were very expensive and almost impossible to get unless you had connections. A lot of people bought tickets so that they could sell them later at crazy prices.
