Why are people different skin colors or have different characteristics?

Yes for the most part you are correct in that skin colour, is a way to help prevent skin cancer, but it was also for vitamin D as well. When humans made their way to europe and other more northern places those with less melanin were more suited to the conditions where there is less intense sunlight and having darker skin means that they also get less vitamin D….this meant that fairer skin was selected for in europe and asia. Aborigines are a different situation…australia did not did not drift off from asia, during the ice age the sea levels dropped and people were able to make their way to Oz, when the sea levels rose they were isolated from the “rest of the world” and i am pretty sure they made their way from Africa by way of the coastlines thru asia to australia. The people that made it their had different selelction pressures and “look” slightly different from other people.
