Why are organic fruit and vegetables more expensive?
The difference between certified and organic produce is closing, some organic produce is the same or cheaper, but some is still more expensive. The price of Non-organic produce does not include the documentation and record keeping, soil analysis, high standards of nutrition and natural, more labour intensive pest control. Certified organic farms are taking care of the soil, not adding chemicals that destroy the ecosystem and someone will eventually have to pay to have cleaned up. Just imagine producing certified organic eggs. The chickens can only eat certified organic food and graze on certified organic land and their health is managed without routine use of antibiotics and hormones and their welfare must be considered.
