Why are nursery rhymes a lot of insane rubbish?
Most nursery rhymes are thinly disguised political slogans. Humpty Dumpty was a field gun used in the Napoleonic wars (Britain’s ultimate weapon until some idiot mounted it on a wall and broke it). Jack and Jill were Louis XVII and Marie Antoinette who tumbled down from the guillotine. Now write one about Baa baa Brown sheep. Fairy stories about wolves eating pigs and little girls were designed to warn children about the behaviour of predatory individuals. You’ll notice that being eaten by someone in a bed features quite regularly. These days, we don’t have insane rubbish. Our children watch Eastenders and BB.
