Why are nuclear weapons such a problem in todays society?
The US has had nuclear weapons since 1945 and has not used them since Nagasaki in August 1945, the Soviet Union, now Russia has had them since 1949 and never used them. But as more and more third world countries and countries with possibly unstable governments get or try to get nuclear weapons, it can clearly be a threat. All out nuclear war, of the MAD (mutually assured destruction) type scenario which was talked about during the days of the Cold War, is much more unlikely now, but there is still a threat of nuclear weapons being used by terrorists or a rogue government like North Korea; and even an exchange of nuclear weapons were that to happen. That is why they are still a problem today, even though they are talked about a little less than in the 60’s.
